If you’re struggling to get ahead in life and you’re constantly feeling down and defeated, chances are your mentality could use a little work.
Everyone experiences setbacks. Everyone encounters obstacles. But it’s how you respond to these situations which ultimately determines how long (and how far) you’ll be able to carry on.
Here are three things mentally strong people DON’T do that prime their minds and spirits to overcome anything that stands in their way.
If you find yourself doing any of these things, then it’s time to make some changes. Your happiness, joy, and fulfillment depend on it.
Let’s get to it.
WASTE TIME FEELING SORRY FOR THEMSELVES
Mentally strong people don’t play the victim.
They accept whatever circumstances they have and do their best to make their lives better. They know that no amount of whining or complaining is going to improve their situation, so they don’t do it.
If you’re looking for pity from others, you’ve already accepted defeat.
Don’t waste time feeling sorry for yourself.
Ain’t nobody got time for that.
FEAR CHANGE AND AVOID NEW CHALLENGES
If one thing is certain, it’s that everything changes over time — life is a constant ebb and flow.
And that scares the bejeezus out of a lot of people.
But mentally strong people accept it as an inevitability of life. They embrace it and use it to their advantage.
If things are going to change anyway, then why not accept it and look at each new situation as an opportunity to learn and grow?
A better life always comes with a new set of challenges. And unless your life is perfect right now, things will likely have to change for something better, won’t they?
Don’t force yourself between a pickle and a hard place.
Accept change and face new challenges as they come — these are the prerequisites to build the life you’ve been dreaming of.
WASTE ENERGY ON THINGS YOU CAN’T CONTROL
There’s an epidemic sweeping the world right now and that epidemic is called WORRY.
Talk to the next 100 people you see and notice how the majority of them are worried about something they have absolutely no control over.
Maybe it’s the economy. Maybe it’s the meth that’s sweeping their streets and destroying their communities. Maybe it’s an airborne disease they just heard about on the news.
Who knows — there are literally COUNTLESS things to worry about.
Newspapers and news channels would be out of business if there wasn’t.
But how much of that can you actually control?
My guess? Not very much of it.
If there’s something you can do to change it, do it.
If there’s nothing you can do to change it (or nothing you will do to change it) stop worrying about it. You’re just wasting valuable energy otherwise.

These aren’t the only things mentally strong people do differently than others, but they’re certainly some of the most important.
It’s not that they’re better or more capable or more worthy — it’s just that they’ve learned to overcome the obstacles standing in most people’s way.
Best part?
You can learn to do the same. You can train your mind to respond differently to these situations. You’re not stuck with the same mentality forever.
But it takes work. It takes commitment. And it takes a willingness to be better.
If you can handle that, then you’ll be rewarded with a state of mind that helps you reach new heights and overcome any challenge that stands in your way.
