When you think of love, what do you imagine?
What do you see in your mind when you picture it?
Is it a feeling? A state of being?
For many, yes.
It’s most definitely both.
But what else?
Is it something you can hold? Something you can taste? Something you can trap in a bottle and take wherever you go?
Sure.
Love is many things.
But most important?
Love is a verb.
An act.
It’s something that you do — something that you actively participate in.
It’s taking out the trash before you’re asked because you know your partner will appreciate it.
It’s making sure you have time off work so you can be present for your wife’s first ultrasound.
It’s visiting a friend you haven’t seen in a while… or taking care of a neighbor’s dog while they’re out of town.
It’s listening to understand and not to respond.
It’s offering your shoulder for someone to cry on.
It’s remembering little details like birthdays and names.
Or complimenting a friend who’s just chopped off all their hair.
It’s reaching out and holding your lover’s hand.
It’s telling people how you really feel.
Love is at its best when it’s in motion — when it’s caught in the act of doing something for someone else.
It’s not about who you love — it’s about how you love.
And if you put your mind to it, there are countless ways to do it.
Love is an act.
It’s something that you do.
How will you choose to love another today?
