This past weekend, we hosted a potluck at our house.
The intention was to make a big pot of chicken chow mein for our guests. Something that was healthy, yummy, and considerate of anyone’s eating restrictions.
As such, we settled on gluten-free egg noodles as the noodle of choice.
And let me just say…
FUCK gluten-free egg noodles.
That shit IS NOT going to cut it.
In fact, as soon as we added them to the dish, our chicken chow mein turned into chicken chow oatmeal.
It was a disaster.
Even worse? This all happened 30 minutes before our guests were supposed to arrive… for our first potluck… EVER.
Needless to say, we were feeling pretty great about it…
But thankfully, we found a way to make it work.
Anyway, what’s the point of all this?
Well, besides venting a little about the mishap, two things:
- ALWAYS prepare ahead of time… and give yourself enough wiggle room to correct mistakes if and when they happen. It’s okay to try something new, just make sure you have a backup plan if something goes wrong.
- When in doubt, ordering pizza is always a safe bet 😉
